The base person/pet/vehicle distinction works reasonably well, but the marquee 'AI' feature (familiar faces) has a rocky track record. Nest Cam has built-in intelligence that distinguishes between a person and a pet, sending relevant alerts to the Google Home app. Yet users report the familiar-faces feature often feels like more of an annoyance than a benefit, from not recognizing daily visitors to confusing one person for another.
Solves the basic 'was that a person or my cat' problem well, but the differentiator feature disappoints many owners. Google itself has acknowledged the bar is very low after five years of dealing with the same familiar-face accuracy issues.
Good fit for households already using Google Home/Nest Aware who value app polish over facial-ID accuracy; less good for anyone specifically buying it for reliable 'who's at my door' identification.
