Use this when your child has big feelings and you want words for them. It tells a gentle story about one feeling and gives three questions you can ask afterward.
Write a gentle story for my [AGE]-year-old about a character who feels [FEELING, E.G. NERVOUS, ANGRY, LEFT OUT]. Show what the feeling is like in the body, give it a simple name and show the character trying two calm things that help, such as breathing or telling a grown-up. End warmly. Use short sentences, and after the story give me three questions I can ask my child about a time they felt like that.
Tip: Follow your child's lead. If they do not want to talk about it, that is fine.
Before you send it, replace the parts in [square brackets] with your own details:
If the story gives advice that does not suit your family, say: change the ending so the character asks a grown-up for help.
